The PSAT is a preliminary version of the SAT that is 2 hours and 45 minutes long. This test not only gives you an invaluable opportunity to practice and compare your scores with other test takers from all over the country, but if you get high scores, you may also qualify for many scholarships, including the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.

The scores for the PSAT are grouped into two areas. The first is the Math section, and the second is composed of both the Reading and Writing sections combined. Each of the two sections will have a final score ranging from 160 to 760, and your overall PSAT score will be calculated by adding those two sections scores together, for a total possible score ranging from 320 to 1520.
The top 50,000 scorers on the PSAT are recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program and sent letters of commendation. Each year, the program distributes more than $47 million to over 10,000 of these students.
